    Hi everyone,

I prefer to use the trimmer to create sub-clips before editing in the timeline. I find it hard to edit in the timeline from the onset as I only tend to use about 0.1% of what I’ve filmed, and it’s easier to cut the excess before getting underway.
What I currently do is watch the video from start to end in the trimmer, and when I see the start of a highlight I want, I click the set-in point ([), followed by set-out point (]) at the end of the highlight. I then create the sub-clip.
My problem is, after I have created the sub-clip and it’s entered into the media window, I want to keep watching my video in the trimmer from the END of the sub-clip I’ve just created. Currently, the trimmer plays the video from the start of the sub-clip I’ve just created and I have to re-watch it before getting on with the content I haven’t seen. I realise I can just speed up the footage to get past the clip I’ve just cut-out, but when you’re extracting hundreds of sub-clips it gets very tedious and doesn’t seem necessary.
Is there a way to change this or am I going about creating sub-clips in an inefficient way? I’m still a relative novice with Vegas Pro so I’ve probably picked up loads of bad habits from working stuff out by myself.
Also, when I create a sub-clip, how can I make it go into its own unique folder in the media window? I.e. if it’s a Wedding I’d like to be able to sort the clips into folders, such as “Pre-ceremony, Ceremony, Photos, Reception, Speeches, Post-Speeches”.

    Thanks a lot!

I am often in the same position, but I do load everything on to the timeline and play until I find the start of a piece I want. I press S to cut the video, then delete the leading piece. Then play the remainder until I get to the out point of what I want and press S again, then continue the search for the next segment. Note that when you delete the part before your next cut, the first clip you wanted will still be there. Also, if you have Ripple edit engaged, all the clips you save will be concatenated with no gaps.
Should any of the events you have created be too short or too long, you can adjust the in/out edges.
    Simple, really.

Thanks for replying Phil. I appreciate your time.

I agree. I do some editing in the timeline and it does seem easier. The times I tend to use the trimmer are when I want to segment my clips into folders. So if I’ve got a few hundred sub-clips and at a particular point in the video I’m editing in the timeline I say, “hey, a shot of the bride’s flowers flying through the air would look awesome here!”, I can go into the post-reception folder and find it quickly and easily.

You’d think Sony would have an option to continue playing from the set-out point of your sub-clip as compared to the set-in clip. Grrrr…..
