  • Need advice on setting up a ATTO Raid

Posted by Chris Jones on March 24, 2012 at 5:24 pm

I’m on a budget but I’m trying to avoid buying a Highpoint 2722 (I’m not reading a lot of praise here for that brand).

But I think ATTO might be out of my price range – it depends on what my options are with the enclosure.

Is there a 4 disk or 8 disk enclosure that would work with the R680 that in the $500 dollar price range? I looked at the compatible enclosures on the ATTO website and the few I looked up were very expensive.

Or is there another ATTO card that is cheaper that might work for me?

Good tech support is going to be important since I have not set anything like this up before.

    I’m on a Mac 4,1
I’ll be using Da Vinci Resolve with 12MB DPX files.
I only have 1 PCI slot available

    Thanks for any help!

    Chris,

We have what you’re looking for & you can buy it for under $500 here: https://www.powermax.com/parts/show/pro-eb400ms & that chassis would work great with the ATTO R680 card.

    Jon,

    That does look interesting.

With the 3/G chassis and only 4 drives; what kind of read/write speeds would I see?

    Chris,

Our 8 bay does 900-1000MB/s in RAID 5, so 400MB/s on the 4 bay would be expected, read/write…

That unit looks like it might work for me.

    Thanks! 🙂
