  • Need advice on installing Windows 7

I’d like some advice from the experienced. I’ve waited to plan a move from XP to Windows 7. I’m still on a Intel quad 4 9550 and would like to install Windows 7. As a protective measure I’ve considered removing my current system drive with all the files intact and replacing it with a new drive. Then complete a clean install with Win 7, Vegas 11 64, and other program files.
Also, If I make this jump. What happens to my current Vegas 32 bit projects on the other drives. Do they need to be fully completed or will they work with the new operating system. Any advice, caveats, or suggestions would be appreciated. As many of you know. Murphy lingers close by like an unwanted guest.

    Thanks,
    August

You can open 32 bit projects in Vegas 64 bit, but some 32bit pluggins may not work. I was nervous switching from XP to Win 7 64, so I made one machine a dual boot, keeping my old XP partition but adding another partition with Win 7 64 bit. I could even access projects from my XP partition from the Win 7 one.
I haven’t booted into XP for a while now, but I did at first.

Thanks Danny, That’s a good idea. Could hold me over until I can build or buy another system. I may have to check back as I get closer to making the jump. Have a good holiday.

    Thanks,

If you have internal storage slots, or esata ports, simply buy a new 2tb drive and configure w7 on that. You can still dual boot through rom for example.

I made the switch from XP to Vista (briefly) then to Windows 7 when it first came out. Gone were the constant hangs and inexplicable blue screens. Have not looked back since!

My system specs: Intel i7 970, 12GB RAM, ASUS P6T, Vegas Pro 10e (x32/x64), Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, Vegas Production Assistant 1.0, VASST Ultimate S Pro 4.1, Neat Video Pro 2.6

Thanks Nigel, Danny and Al. Think I will take the additional drive route. Appreciate the input.
