  • Need advice on audio problem after exporting movie

I have video that when viewed on orignal tape there is no issue, when it is captured and played on the computer there is no issue…but when it is edited in premier and then exported as a movie there are periodic sound issues that appear in the audio. Here is a small portion of the video where the problem occurs. This example has been compressed by TinyPic but if you listed close you will hear a definte harsh scratching sound. In the original .avi file it is a lot more harsh and annoying.

And yes…that is me stammering like an idiot…please ignore that 🙂

On a 1 hour tape this issue comes up maybe 10 times. It seems to mainly appear when I (the one filming) am talking and I’m louder than the rest of the audio (since the mic is on top of the camera)

If the exported video is simply the same 0s and 1s (digital) how can a new sound be introduced into the clip? Can premier pro add (or highlight) bad audio that isn’t there (or as obvious) in the origianl?

    Thanks

Your audio is peaking. If it wasn’t in the original tape, then you’re in luck, simply lower the volume in Premiere under effects > volume.

When you hear that sound and look at the audio meter in Premiere, you should see it going in the red, and that’s bad. Simply lower it until it goes right under the red on average. There are additional controls that you may want to look into, including compression.

I’ve found how to apply the volume effect to the clip…but how do I see the audio meter? I’d love to be able to visually see the problem and not have to export the video and then search for the problem.

If you have Premiere 2.0, it should be there by default, or by bringing up the “Audio” workspace, so I’m assuming that you have Premiere 1.5 or below, and well, it’s been a while, but I’m pretty sure that you can find it under the “Window” menu.

    Cheers,
