I’m an Avid editor by trade so I’m a bit behind 90% of you guys when it comes to FCP. I’m working on a project and I’m trying to place a logo or a bug in the lower third of the screen. The logo is in a PNG file or format.

It has an alfa channel so it is keying nicely over the video when I super it in the FCP timeline but It is some what pixelated since I had to reduce its original size.

I’m using the wire and frame feature in the canvas to reduce its size, that’s probably not the best way to do it but its the only way I no how. Is their something I can do to prevent the jagged edges and loss of quality in the image?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Carlos,
if the border of the logo is very pixelated may be because FC is interpreting wrongly the Alpha.
Try with the three different options (Strait, Black, White) in the Alpha column of the Browser.
When you change the option you need to drag again the logo to the time-line. Changes in the Browser do not affect the clips already in the sequence.
    Cheers,

    1. Set the viewer size for the canvas to 100

    2. Double click the graphic in your sequence to load it into the viewer, and in the motion tab, make sure that y-axis is set to an even whole number.

    3. Make sure that Full is checked in the Sequence>>Render ALL dropdown menu, and then render.

Thank you Rafael for taking the time to respond. David told me to make sure I had something check on in my settings for the timeline and that did the trick. Thanks again for your help.

Thank you very much David for taking the time to help me out.

I didn’t have the “Full” checked on in the settings as soon as I check it on and rendered the timeline it worked like a charm.

However I couldn’t find the Y-axis in the motion tab you mentioned or at least It wasn’t clearly marked for me to see it.

I followed all of your other suggestions and the logo looks clean.

Thanks again David I owe you one, I’m so glad my friend told me about this website man, the people here are very cool and very very helpful.

If you are ever in DC David e-mail me and I’ll buy you a beer.

I’ll take you up on that sometime Carlos.

The y-axis isn’t labeled as such, but the two variables in the “Center” settings of the motion tab are left side=x-axis (right & left), and right side=y-axis (up & down).

The y-axis should always be set to an even number so that your graphic falls properly on a full scan line.
