    Hey there,

My boss has tasked me with rustling up a camcorder that one of our employees can use on the road to create web material. Here are the specifications I’ve been given:

Smallish (I know, very technical right?)
    3CCD
    mini-DV
Microphone line in (preferably XLR but realistically 1/8in would work fine)

And that’s all. I’ve been looking at CNET’s reviews but haven’t found anything in particular that fits well.

We could probably go for something that records onto a hard drive as long as the format it is recorded in isn’t proprietary. I’ve had problems dealing with the AVCHD codec on Panasonic camcorders.

On that topic, does Final Cut support AVCHD? I’ll bring that question over to the FCP board as well.

    Thanks!

    -Tucker

All I know of that fits most of that is the HMC40, which lacks the 3CCD.

To get 3CCD, and mic input, and Mini DV, it sounds like an SD Panny GS500 as the most current model that was available.

In HD gear, 3CCD is only going to be in the lower end pro lines, and up. Something like the Panny HMC150 fits all you describe, except the “Smallish”.

Don’t know about Sony gear, but assume it is going to be the same level of gear as the Panny, to get what you wish for.
