Have you seen shows like “The Ultimate Fighter” on Spike where they disguise lav mics in necklaces that the whole cast wears?

If you haven’t seen these in use the band looks like twisted leather straps or something that I assume they wrapped around the mic cable. They then put a pendant on it to keep it heavy in front and keep the mic in place. The mic cable runs out of the back of the neckalce and down their back to the transmitter in a beltpack.

Well I’m looking to do the same thing. I’ll be shooting in a martial arts facility so sometimes the participants will be working out without shirts on, so we need a place to put the mic. These little necklace mics look like their homemade so I was wondering if anyone had any tips on materials to use.

    Thanks for your help!

Since you will still need a belt-pack and you’ll see the cable running down the talents’ back…

How about putting the mic in a head-band?

That should look a lot more natural than a necklace, I’d think.

Well, asking these guys to wear a headband would be about as natural as asking them to wear ballet slippers!

The necklaces actually look pretty natural if you use materials a guy like this would wear (leather and metal!). Proof of that can be found on the various UFC related web forums where people were asking where they could buy the necklaces. People didn’t realize they were mics, they just thought it was a special piece of jewelry all the fighters got. The UFC had so many requests they are actually selling a version of it on their website!

[FischTale] “ll, asking these guys to wear a headband would be about as natural as asking them to wear ballet slippers!”

No martial arts headbands, but necklaces are macho.

Well, I’m out of the loop.

    Time are changing! 🙂

Maybe the headbands will come back since there is a new Rambo movie coming out soon!

Sennheiser make adapters for the MKE2. The Mzm10 and mzm2, basically a magnetic holder and ring.
