NDF to 23.98 to 29.97…possible?
Posted by Beelaster on May 27, 2005 at 4:08 amCan I output a 23.98 timeline, which originated in NDF 30fps, to NTSC 29.97? Will there be a mess?

May 27, 2005 at 12:03 pmRemember that NDF is also 29.97fps, in DF, it’s the frame numbers that get dropped, not the frames themselves and NTSC always runs at 29.97fps.
To play a 23.98fps timeline out to NTSC, you’ve got to add 3:2 pulldown. I think some hardware cards might do this, but I’ve not seen it myself, but FCP certainly adds 3:2 when going out over firewire to DV, or if that’s not applicable, I have a little plugin package, Standards Conversion, that will add 3:2 pulldown for you as a render process to convert 23.98fps to 29.97fps NTSC.
