NCAA and EA Lawsuit has filmmaking implications
This is an interesting lawsuit involving former college players suing the NCAA and EA Sports over the use of their likeness in games such as NCAA Football. What’s interesting is that this particular case has already gotten a ruling in favor of the players which has not happened in the past.
EA’s defense is that the players in the game are inspired by real people, but not the real people themselves, much as a filmmaker or author might use inspiration to create fictional characters. The Motion Picture Association of America has come to the defense of EA as this ruling could have implications in future movie productions.
Interesting read.
