  • Navigate around composition window keyboard shortcut – does it exist?

Posted by Jack Bradbury on December 8, 2020 at 1:30 pm

    Hi all,

Was just wondering if there was a possible way to navigate left, right, up & down in the composition window using a keyboard shortcut? When I’m zoomed in and want to check something else out into the composition window I’m having to switch to the Hand tool and drag the window to the section of the composition I need to view… Does a shortcut exist to move around?

    Thanks

    Jack

No need to switch to the hand tool. You can hold the space bar no matter what tool is currently selected and drag in the composition window to “navigate.” You can also drag two fingers on a trackpad.

Not sure about shortcuts for the arrow keys. But you could use “H” for the hand tool and then “A” or “V” to quickly switch back to the selection tool?

Middle-mouse button is also a way to pan around your composition.

Of note: if you’re working in 3d space, there’s a whole slew of new options for navigating around AE in 3d space – holding alt and the different mouse buttons is but one of them.
