Native Settings
Posted by Jonathan Ames on December 13, 2009 at 2:01 amI was wondering why when I set a project’s sequence settings for XDCAM1080p30 and import footage, I get a render bar and lost the ability to select RT Unlimited. Is this not a native setting in FCP 5.1 and if I install the newest FCP Studio, will that change things?

December 13, 2009 at 6:10 pmHow are you setting this in 5.1?
Was there even an Easy Setup for XDCAM way back then?
You are using software that’s five or six years old now, XDCAM was first released back at that same time.
Of course both version 6 and 7 handle the newer codecs and handle them better.

December 13, 2009 at 7:58 pmThank you. I bit the bullet this AM and installed FCP7 HOPING it would recognize my former Project Files and it worked. So I can finish the project and begin exploring the differences between 5 and 7. Thank you so much for your re3sponse.

Support for XDCAM HD (VBR) as fully qualified FCP native codecs was introduced with FCP5.1.2 … XDCAM EX (VBR) codecs with FCP6.0.2, and XDCAM HD422 with 6.0.3

December 14, 2009 at 8:21 amYeah, any color you like, as long as its black … or in this case, pertinent info on any format you like as long as its XDCAM 😉

December 14, 2009 at 4:24 pmThank you guys so much. It’s working well. Now the only issues I have are getting all formats to play well together on the timeline. I have bits of screen capture, .psd files and animations. Still having to render quite a bit inter-build to see the results of pieces before the final render. Thanks again for your time and help.
