I just started an edit with some BRoll shot 4K ProRes 422 HQ, 23.98 fps.
    Bringing it into 1080i 59.94 timeline it plays back S L O W LY.
Plays same way in Quicktime AND after transcode in Avid.
We suspect it was all done slow mo.
Unfortunately we were not told this,
and a subsequent falling out with the vendor
makes it unlikely to get a response from said vendor.

    Ahem.
I arrived on the scene after this, so trying to figure this one out.

I would think the frame rate as shot would show up in QT Inspector or Avid.

    Is this not the case?

I am not in front of a system at the moment, but there is a column that shows the frame rate declared by the file. It’s also visible in the new browser window. Some formats when shooting slomo will only display the play back rate and not the original shooting rate in its metadata. Also, MediaInfo is a good tool for digging into the wrapper, codec, frame rate, and aspect ratio.

I think that’s the case, Michael. MediaInfo is showing same fps., so we are not seeing source rate.

    Thanks!

It’s playing back slow motion…in every player. That means that it was recorded at that frame rate. I know that the early P2 cameras, (I had an HVX170) allowed you to shoot 60p, but RECORD 23.98. So the file was encoded slow motion, in camera. That might be the case here. Not positive, just a guess. But because all the apps that look at that file are playing it slow motion, and not normal speed, it appears to have been recorded at 23.98.
