Native Dimension option .What is that?

so don’t use native dimensions option?

320×240 was the option that came up automatically. ..

so, right now my sequence has clips with 320×240 (native dimensions), along side the Day 2 footage that I never converted because it was already 1080i/59.94 ..which means ?….the sequence is it square and rectangle ?

I think I exported with custom settings

but I see if I use SAME AS SOURCE

they give the option DV (1280 X 720) , 4:3 ( 960X720) , 16.9 SQ PIXEL (1280 X720)

Should I use the DV (1280 x 720) or 16.9 sq pixel (1280 x 720)..?? (i’m trying to make everything capable with the p2 footage)

I have already export/ import 100 clips, (wrong perhaps)

w/ 3.5 I was not able to open clips with different frame rates, ( in the same bin)

With 4.0 – they will automatically change the frame rates? because the canon shots were 30fps

I’m a little confused by the details in your posts, but I’ll give it stab. The sizes you mention seem to be all over the board.

– Native dimensions means the frame size native to that format. Some flavors of video don’t have a native, as they can be different sizes. But for the most part, 1080i is 1920×1080, 720P is 1280×720, SD (standard definition) is 720×480 or 720×486. These are all NTSC (used in North America).

– 320×240 is smaller than SD video (DV is 720×480 – NTSC). 320×240 is almost never a native dimension. This is usually used for approval or web videos. Almost never for editing. And is 4:3 aspect ratio.

Yes, you created a 320×240 (tiny) image, which is 4:3. It may still be anamorphic, but that’s another can of worms we can deal with another day.

– If you scaled your video from 1080i to 320×240 you have cut your image size down to a quarter of it’s original size. Don’t scale down before editing. Keep everything 1920×1080. If you shot some video 720P, you can transcode these clips within Avid to be the same 1080i format as your other footage.

Hi, I do have another question, I deleted the previous clips and started over. In the past when I captured the clips it was stored on my laptop’s hard drive, and it created an OMFI media folder (wave clips/sound) (from canon xlr2 camera)

This time while capturing I used an external hard drive, but I don’t see an OMFI file folder (w/ wave clips) for this new batch (just the MXF files)

Is that standard? because I have to give someone the project in a low resolution quick time .mov file, window burn, and the OMFI file? So, I want to make sure I have all the OMFI files…

There is a setting in, Settings>Audio Project where you can choose the Audio File Format, OMFI or MXF. Your system must have been set to MXF and thus created audio in this format – which is fine.

If they are cutting on an Avid that shouldn’t be a problem. You could give them the drive with all the media and a copy of the Avid Project. Depending on what version they are using, they should be able to use the MXF files.

Ok…also it was the sound effects tech (using protools) asking for the OMFI file once the editing is done (not the editor)..
MXF still OK?
Because I’m not seeing an option not to use MXF this time, (and I don’t remember having it set to OMF the last time either)…
(I just downloaded the MC 4.0 version)….

Protools should open MXF, but you could transcode the MXF files to OMFI by using the Consolidate/Transcode option under the Clip menu (or right-clicking).

Thanks… I’m curious about one more thing.
so now my timeline has mixed frame rates 720p/59.94, 24p, and 1080i/59.94
now I want to export it QT to give to the sound person. But when I export it, (then re-import it)

which setting should I use the 720p or 1080i… also on import Avid options ask if the fields are even odd, upper/lower, but I have both… what’s going to look the best. ??

or do I need to start all over and convert ea. clip indiv.
