CAN SOMEONE TELL me please how you make a name strip in FCP? I get the text in but how do you get that thin strip base for the text to be on top of?

(Like placing it before an interview to tile the name of speaker?)

    thanks guys:)

FCP has a pre-built Lower Third function. It has the lower third bar already in there.

Or you can create a Color Matte and just place that behind the text. Create the Color Matte and then crop the top / bottom to get it the size you want it. You can knock down the opacity if you don’t want the bar to be solid.

Another great way is to go to a site like iStockphoto and search for a graphic that has something to do with your subject to use as a design element.

In the case below, where the subject is engineering, I searched “high tech” and got a full-sized image. I placed it below the lower 3rd text, cropped it using controls in the FCP Motion tab, then added a drop shadow in the Motion tab. Bingo, instant lower 3rd and a design element I can use again.
