October 23, 2006 at 3:08 pmIt’s called a lower 3rd, because it’s in the bottom 1/3 of the video screen. If you have Motion or Live Type, they come with many animated templates for lower 3rds. You can also build non animated ones very quickly with Photoshop or Gimp, or use the Title 3D generator, with the matte generator in FCP directly. There are many ways to make them, and it only depends on what you want them to look like & how you want them to appear & disappear.

October 23, 2006 at 4:47 pmI think you may be a little in over your head. Or at least your question is too vast to be covered here. You’ve basically just asked how to operate Motion, LiveType, Photoshop, and Final Cut Pro. In relation to your question about pixels and patterns, that’s your choice and that’s why people study design, software and editing. There is no answer. In asking about everything else I think you may want to look into tutorials for the program which are included or take a few beginer classes. This isn’t a training 101 forum.
But perhaps you are a skilled craftsman in some other editing software and just need a jump start in FCP… Basic titles are created in FCP with the pull-down menu in the viewer in the lower right hand corner. There are a few choices for text, mattes, color bars, etc. Your best choice would probably be a static lower 3rd from the text sub menu.

October 23, 2006 at 7:40 pmYou might want to ask your question in the Final Cut Basic Forum as it is a forum for new users of FCP. This forum is for more advanced users.
Just to get you started since you don’t have a manual:
Open live type, go to File, then open template. Choose Lower Third, then choose the lower third you want and click ok. Type in the text you want and save it. Import your LiveType file into Final Cut or render out a Quicktime file.Hope this gets you started…….
