We as a church are in the process of selecting gear for a new auditorium that is scheduled to be completed about a year from now. I was thinking about attending NAB this year but it would be nicer to wait until later in the year to check out what is new gear wise. It works better in my schedule as well to wait.

Can anyone give me some advice aobut NAB post+? I know it is much smaller than NAB but it looked like it would cover our needs better than infocomm. We are needing to evaluate the following types of gear:

large mixing and monitoring audio consoles
distribution options both in audio and video (maybe cat5 as well as SDI)
display systems (point of sale type systems like ChryTV)
    Live CG
    Video Mixers
    Broadcast cameras
pretty much anything else that would go into a large fixed installation

My concern is whether Post+ will have enough of the vendors we are looking for on the production end of things. When I checked out the list it is still pretty sparce. (I didn’t even see Adobe)

I guess I’m asking if we can get the job done at Post+ or should we rethink a different convention.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Dan

There will be plenty of companies there, Dan, and far more information than one human being could possibly digest. The 2005 show was a big success and so you can expect that a lot of companies will sign on but that it’s rare for companies to sign on so early in the year — especially as the next show will be next December.

That said, the Las Vegas event is the granddaddy of them all and it is huge.

Thanks Ron! This place really does feel like a community and not just a bunch of forums. I enjoy listening to the podcast.

You are welcome, Dan. And thank you for the kind words about the site and the podcast; all of us on the Cow Team try very hard to produce something of value to the members here and to do it all in a way that promotes a real sense of community. It’s nice to know that people notice.

    Best regards,
