Walter, they’ve been doing this for years. Its about a 30 minute hands on experience of one of pro-apps. Its not about learning the tool, but taking a test drive. The Apple classroom has always been like this. And just try and get a seat. Unless you show up as soon as doors open the entire day’s classes fill up.

Thank you to EVERYone for their replies. And Wow, that’s just nuts, it’s not only a lot of money, but it doesn’t sound conducive to learning, at all!

I read on the Apple website that you can take the exam online for $25. I am a member of Lynda.com, I have watched Shane’s free vids, but should purchase, and I do have the Apple book along with 2 others. I like the idea of getting the cert, but just level one, won’t pay any more than the books and the $25 exam fee.

Thanks again! And I do kinda wish I was goin to Las Vegas, but mostly just to gamble and party, lol, and maybe shop a bit too.

I just received my map to exhibition halls at NAB, and guess what: there are two places where Avid is shown in a hall, and no Apple.

Could Avid have sucker-punched Apple to withdraw, only to come back to the exhibition at the last minute?

Michael obviously has some inside information about Apple being at NAB in some convoluted form… Please do tell as soon as you know. Especially if we can see Final Cut Server in action somewhere.

Michael, I just want to thank you and all the other producers of the NAB FCPUG SuperMeet. I was at one three years ago, and it’s the best thing to attend at NAB. I’m sure you’ll have a few surprises again this year.

    Regards

I received my training and certification this way in 2005 at NAB+ in NY. FMC is great, I highly recommend them….I took my tests down here in Miami after. I saved a lot of money by doing this too…I got in NAB at a student rate and saved probably close to 2k had I gone to FMC on my own.

Level One exams are available without taking a class. Beyond that, you must first take the class before taking an exam.

Again, I don’t find certification useful at all and when hiring a new editor / artist, this is not something I consider.
