I’ve got clips unrendering in the timeline for no apparent reason and/or loosing the connection to the rendered video files.

    Problem #1
The timeline will in some instances show that clip is rendered in the timeline (blue bar) but when playing back will display the “unrendered” message in the canvas window. The rendered media resides in correct folder, it seems FCP just can’t see it. It almost seems as if FCP is loosing the connection to the media. Forcing the clip to re-render fixes it but it seems to be happening every couple of days now and re-rendering is getting annoying.

    Problem #2
The same clips in problem #1 will sometimes unrender for no apparent reason. They are very near the beginning of the timeline and I’m working near the end so it’s unlikely I’m moving any of the underlying media to trigger the unrender.

Timeline is DV-NTSC. Clips that are unrendering are a mix of sizes, HD1080i, SD, various size still image jpgs, but all use the “Photo-JPEG” flavor. Could it be something related to photo-JPEG?

G5 Quad, FCP 6.0.1, QT 7.2, 4.5G ram, sonnet external SATA enclosure (but I’ve tried changing the render folder destination and it doesn’t seem to change the outcome)

There was a huge thread about this as soon as FCS2 came out. Basically you have to avoid duplicating your sequences or else the original sequence will lose it’s rendered files.

It’s a really really really bad bug that has yet to be fixed. I don’t have the link in front of me but apple has a section on the website addressing this.

If I find it again I’ll post.

Thanks Justin. It helps a little bit to know that the bug has been ID’ed. I’m sure they’ll sort it out and I’ll figure out a work around in the meantime.
