  Mysterious crosshairs & a mask

  I’ve done it yet again! Hit the wrong shortcut or something of the sort….

  I am pressing ‘V’ to get my selection tool and when I go to the workspace, a small circle with crosshairs appear. When I click and drag, it draws a mask. With it still selected, I’ve tried to delete it but whatever layer/item I have selected disappears instead. I’m stumped…I”m sure I mashed on a key by accident! Help!
