My volume routine in vegas
Is their a better way to deal with volume in vegas then the way i’m doing it?
Here’s my routine when editing. I always leave the audio tract setting on vol: 0.0dB and the pan: center. I set the audio on the Master mixer output fader on -18 and leave it there. I then do all my volume adjustments for the tracts with the volume invelope watching the Master mixer output meter so It doesn’t go into the red.
Is this the best way to do audio? I need a fairly easy way to do it since i’m not audio tech. minded.

I usually leave the Master volume alone. I may adjust the track level volume some. Then I use the Volume Envelope to fine-tune. You can also use a compressor to help prevent spikes above 0.0.

Thanks Edward. When you say you usually leave the Master mixer alone. Where is it set on and how do you know if your spiking? You mentioned you use the compressor to prevent spiking. How do i find that to set? Thanks again

If you get a “red” number on playback then you’ve gone above zero.[Gary & Yvonne] “You mentioned you use the compressor to prevent spiking.”
The “Track Compressor” is automatically added on every new audio track but it’s set to do nothing. Check out the presets. Start testing with maybe the 2:1 or 3:1 presets.
