Unfortunately I never figured that one out. My computer started crashing a lot not to long after. I am pretty sure I just need a faster computer or my drive is messed up. I wish I was a tech guy.

I had the exact same issue. I work on a shared station and someone had switch my video playback setting (under the view menu) to a blackmagic setting because they were watching a sequence on an external monitor. I switch it back to digital cinema desktop preview and now both video and audio playback in sync in my canvas window on the computer monitors. Hope that helps.

Hey I was having the very same issue until I realized that some of the Canvas settings had gotten reset or something. At the top of the Canvas window there are three drop down buttons (size, sync, image). Click on the third one and make sure that “image” or “image and wireframe” and “RGB” are checked off.

I’m not sure why the settings reset themselves, must just be a glitch in the software.

I finally figured out my problem all the settings were just fine. It turned out that the HDMI cable was too much for my computer to handle sending a clear output to a HDTV. I switched to a coaxial cable and it started working perfectly.

Two years later, but I could kiss you…Just was about to give up after panicking I had deleted my clips somehow and then you reminded me about this – really obvious but sometimes the wood for the trees. Thanks buddy!

USER of FCP 7 have had this prob before, where the video on the monitor would be stuck, but audio ok and video would jump to the correct frame when stopped. After much goofing about, twice now I’ve had to refind the solution that works for me (the first time was so long ago I forgot what I did to fix it!). Simply this under view, while selecting image plus wire frame, I had selected wire frame only. With my setup this leads to video not playing on external monitor, but sound and scrubbing to be ok, and video jumps to correct frame when you stop.

Not sure this is the only reason this happens, but it’s been the ‘thing’ twice now, and each time took several hours and reading posts like this to get back to my normal. I never found this solution via searching trouble posts.

I was having the same issue and found that on my canvas I had it set to wireframe. It should be set to image+wireframe or image. Problem solved!

I had the same problem just now. I’m on Windows 7 barebones 64 bit, Sony Vaio, I have amd graphics card, I went to their website and auto detected the driver and reinstalled and that fixed the problem.
