December 30, 2009 at 10:25 pm[marrian cho] “but for the toggling, i’m trying to see a “viewer timeline”.
“You are right, but that feature from Avid is not really needed in FCP, as you can have more than one sequence open at a time and easily cut and paste between them.

December 30, 2009 at 10:30 pm//There is 4:3 title safe markers in a 16×9 sequence. They\’re small but they\’re there.//
I should have been more specific, I actually meant in anamorphic timelines. What I really want is a way to show the 4×3 area within a 16×9 frame so I can protect for center crop transfers… Or is there a way to do this and I\’m just missing it?

“Do you see the 4×3 marks in this 16×9 canvas window? Is this what you are asking about? This is in FCP 7.

December 30, 2009 at 10:39 pmGood list, Peter.
– Incorporate Motion and Soundtrack Pro right in to FCP, no more round tripping to do smaller things with a better/more powerful tool set.
– Better XML support for 3rd party applications to allow XML jockeying without losing the clips relationship to a timeline which brings me to:
– Smarter media handling i.e. master and affiliate clip is good on paper but totally weird in reality. Why lose the affiliate relationship and treat a new import as a new master clip? It’s the same piece of media? Keep it straight FCP.
– Customizable column headers for appropriate metadata
– Real time support for any third party codec. I’m talking editing, not playback.
– Customizable interface colors. Why can’t I label just one part of a clip a color instead of making every instance of a clip the same color?
– Cleaner compositing as everyone has mentioned.
– Just get rid of the well system and allow filters to be added right to the appropriate clips on the timeline. It’s weird and goofy.
– ‘Adjustment Layers’ for both audio and video
– Better handling of all stills (as has been mentioned)
– And also, general interface improvements that have been mentioned such as a better log and capture/edit to tape window.

December 30, 2009 at 11:49 pmAhh, cool… I haven’t had any fcp 7 gigs yet. I was looking at an fcp 6 UI. I should have mentioned that in my first post.

I usually throw this one in whenver someone puts up a wish list. Its not something FCP does now, but if it did i think it would be wicked slick!
A clip-saavy find unused media function, so i can see EXACTLY what i did not use in my timeline. ie it makes a bin of all the Footage (not media) left out of the timeline. It would create new clips or subclips based on the Inverse of the timecode ins and outs of the clips in the Timeline, so when i am using 5 seconds of a one minute shot, i can find the remaing 55 seconds.
i mean, are we not working with a computer here?
ya gotta admit that would rock!

December 31, 2009 at 2:54 amLove & agree with all the posts so far…
I would love a way to close all open bins (expanded not atcualy open in new windows) in a project window at once like an option-click or something… I think most other software can do this.

December 31, 2009 at 4:05 am1. Phantom IN/OUT Marks in all windows
2. An icon on thumbnails that tells you “clip used in current or all timelines” So when you are searching for that last shot you have not used you dont have to dig through every clip.
Both of these are my Sony XPRI favorite functions.

Import color labels defined in finder into FCP so I don’t have to scrub footage twice.
