My TOP new BMCC RIG…. Now I need a heavy tripod!!!
Posted by Ali Quintana on February 11, 2015 at 1:41 amGot this great Rig for my BMCC.
thing is its way too heavy for the tripod I lend from my friend (Mamfroto).
Any one suggest a good heavy tripod with smooth pan and tilt. Around US 1000,-, maybe even second hand?
My rig is like 8 kilos right now (incl canon 24-70 2.8 lens, follow focus, matt box and Marschal monitor).
Last shoot the tripod fell 2 times, lucky that the camera man caught both times.

February 14, 2015 at 5:18 pmYou can get a second hand Miller DS-2 tripod with a 75mm bowl (good to 25 kilos) for $425US and a second hand Gitzo 1380 “Fluide” fluid head (good to 10 kilos) for $649US.
That should keep your camera from tipping over!
Good luck,

February 15, 2015 at 4:40 amMiller is a well known professional brand. We use them where I work. Gitzo – not so much.
Top pro brands are:
O’Connor
Vinten
Cartoni
Sachtler
MillerAnother option is this almost new Benro A674TMH10 with a 100mm bowl and 10 kg capacity for $959.50US
Benro is a relatively new brand that has received very favorable reviews:
Again, hope this is helpful!

February 16, 2015 at 2:16 pmSadly, Ali says his rig weighs 8 kg – while the 504HD’s load capacity is only 7.5 kg. Probably not robust enough to meet his needs.

April 7, 2015 at 6:56 pmI picked up a beat up Cartoni Delta with carbon sticks for $1300 and spent another $500 getting it serviced. Ebay is your friend.
