My Tipp of the day…exporting portions of a timeline
I got asked this lot and found a way: How do you export a portion of a timeline when there is no I/O to be set?
Easy:
1. Select “R” Tool.
2. Choose the Region which you want exported. You can even start/end in the middle of a clip. The R tool in fact sets I and O.
3. Once selected make this region a compound clip. Option-G
4. Step into the Compound
5. Export the Compound Timeline!!
6. Step back out and break the Compound apart.Takes 5 seconds longer than in FCP7, but it works and since the COMMAND-E export is so much faster than FCP7 renders, it will be eventually be faster anyway…..
Another way is always to Send to Compressor and set I/O there, but that takes much longer…..

This doesn’t work for me. I can’t make a compound clip from part of a clip. Just beeps at me. If you open the compound clip in the timeline and export using Cmd-E, the application still exports the entire project that contains the compound clip.
What version are you using? Exporting compound clips worked in the first version, but hasn’t subsequently.

wow, you are right. I just showed this to a friend last week. Now in 10.0.3 this does´t work anymore.
neither making a compound from parts of a clip nor the exporting of compounds alone.It goes so far, that you can´t make a compound of a region at all anymore. you have to select the clips with the “A” tool, not the “R” tool.
hmm…sorry guys for the confusion. I didn´t expect the step back….

We had this with FCP Legacy as well, they would fix and add new things in a release but break others.
