    Hello everybody,

I’m rendering a scene in C4D R11, is not animated and I’m using Advanced Render, the scene has a certain level of complexity but nothing too fancy, however it includes an Explosion FX object with fairly high settings, resulting in thousands of small particles. The scene now entered it’s 31st hour of rendering and it looks like more or less half of it is still pending.

I’m a bit worried about burning my CPU due to excessive usage and heat, but I believe I didn’t use any wrong settings, can anyone advice?

    Thanks in advance.

That sounds pretty excessive, but hard to say without more information. What is your final output size? Are you using a lot of transparency/reflection? Global illumination? Hypernurbs?

    Hi Adam, thanks for replying.

The final output is letter size, 2550 x 3300 pixels, rgb 8 bit.

I’m not using hypernurbs, but I have a lot of bubbles that are all reflecting a big object, which is a copper bullet.

Since I’ll be further editing this image in Photoshop I added all image passes to my render. GI is enabled.

I stopped the original render which included an explosion fx object when it hit 40 hours and I wasn’t able to see any progress, I started a new one this morning, but I rendered the explosion fx object separately with GI deactivated, the current render is now almost in its 10th hour and I’m not sure if it’s still moving or not. I’m attaching a screenshot of the render, one of the objects manager and one of the render multipass settings.

Thanks a lot for your help.

I’m guessing that the problem is related to the overlapping transparency and refraction combined with GI. The first thing I would do is try rendering it without GI, or at least turn off GI in the transparent material.

If this is for print you might be able to get away with a smaller output size (try 50%). 3D renders scale up much better than photo sources.

Thanks Adam, I will try rendering at a smaller size.

A quick question: How do I turn off GI for select materials/objects?

    Thanks in advance,

    D.

To exclude objects completely you need to adjust the material and also use a compositing tag. In the material, go to the Illumination tab and uncheck receive and generate GI. In the compositing tag, uncheck “seen by GI”.

Thanks a lot for your help, I’ll try a render without GI for the bubbles.

    Best,

    D.
