    Dear,

    My system configuration is
    Macpro 2.6, 4GB of RAM, Kona-Lhe, 3.5TB Apple Xserve Raid, FCP 5.11

I tested Macpro and found something weired.
When playbacking DV50 file, it was quite good. But, I realized that playbacking 8bit SD uncompressed got the problem. My system was frozen in 5seconds.

So, I tested speed with AJA Benchmark, it said 60~80M/S for Read.
I removed memorey to 2GB, but I got the same result.
For your reference, among 4ways of PCI Slot bus speed configurations, I chose second.

I have no idea what caused it. Is there any configuration missed that I keep in mind?
    Any information would be appreciated.

you just pointed out that you are getting 60-80mb/sec read speed from your Apple XServe RAID, when you should be getting 220mb/sec. To prove this to yourself, do the AJA Kona System test on your internal MAC hard drive – you will get 60mb/sec just from that. Have you done the Firmware upgrade to your XServe RAID. Have you checked the Cache Flushing in RAID Admin ? And yes, for now DO NOT put more than 2 Gigs of RAM in your Mac Pro. There are issues.

    Thank you for the information.
I did what you recommanded. and, I tested once again.
At least my system wasn’t stopped but, I still got the same reading speed though.
I think it should be more faster. Any information would be helpful.

    Bob,
Does the 2 Gig memory issue pertain to all Mac Pro configurations or just XServe Raid/Kona? An associate is planning on purchasing a 2.6 GHz with three internal 500 Gb drives and an Io LA. Most of what he’ll be doing is DV-25, but he needs to the Io to ingest Betacam. Ocassionally he’ll might do some 8-bit uncompressed.

    Thanks,

    Lee

I wish you responded with “I updated my XServe RAID firmware, and turned off the Cache Flushing” – but you were not specific in your response. If you give me more info, I can help you.
