My HDV Success Story

Just thought I would chime in with an HDV success story: I have finally finished a very long HDV project that I began working on 18 months ago in July of 2005. Earlier that spring I traveled the entire 8,000 mile Silk Road by motorcycle and filmed 80 one-hour HDV tapes in the process. The final product is a 4×50-minute documentary series for broadcast. I shot all of the video using a Sony FX-1. After returning to the U.S. I captured and cut rough sequences in DV on a Powerbook and later upgraded to a G5, recaptured as HDV and finished the project in standard HDV fashion. I will be rendering the final sequences in DVCPROHD timelines and bringing them into another facility to layoff to tape in that format.
All in all I spent about 4.5 months on each 50-minute show, editing an average of 10hrs per week at home. So each show took me about 4.5 weeks of work in real time. By comparison, as the editor of
