I might as well get my two cents in. Yesterday I shot a shorty that I decided I’d give a first try in FCPX; after looking it over for a week. I have to admit to being wary after all that has been said.
I plopped the HDV tape in captured, and pulled the first bit of motion opener onto the timeline along with the first minute of program material with FCP happily rendering every freaking thing to who knows what format in the background when…blink. round ball and nothing.
A hard boot later I have resolved to work in what I know will get the job done without grinding my 8 core 10 gig machine to a halt.
My Mac has rarely let me down.:(
    That is my gripe.

[wayne dupuis] “background when…blink. round ball and nothing.”

here is a small test i posted over at the FCPX techniques Forum..
it says nothing about actual work.. but it does say a lot about short term patience 🙂

    to make it short…

it took me about 15 minutes of beach balls and system freeze to natively link 55 32GB Canon DSLR cards and 20+ audio cards with WAV files,
a total of 4770 files which i had full access to and could work with smoothly
if i actually wanted to edit in X… 🙁
