Here is the strange story of my Final Cut Pro 6 — I installed the software on our computer that was currently running FCP 5 and now it’s doing very weird stuff.

There is no image on the canvas or preview unless it is set to Image & Wireframe… The playhead moves, the audio sounds off, but the picture sits frozen on the last frame viewed until you stop and then the image jumps to the frame where the playhead currently rests. You can also scrub through just fine.

If you change the canvas size from “fit to window” to something like 50 or 25% it simply CROPS the full-sized image, not reducing it. If you drag the preview image over onto the canvas the buttons (insert, superimpose, etc.) do not highlight, the image just drags itself off the interface and disappears.

What can I be doing wrong? I trashed the prefs, rewrote the permissions, etc.

Computer is a Mac OSX 10.4.11 Power PC G5 with 2 GB DDR SDRAM.

I’m really starting to get creeped out, AND I can’t edit anything now! 🙁

Did you do all of the updates??? After insatlling you need to keep doing updates until you get a message that everything is up to date…

I keep checking the software updater but haven’t seen anything new since first installing and the doing the upgrades.

    This is seriously wonky!

if you have all the updates you should be running FCP 6.0.2
it sounds to me like you don’t have the correct easy setup running if it won’t play the sequence but lands on the correct frame when you hit stop. also check viewer>external video> all frames and mirror on desktop checked in a/v devices

Stranger still — when I drag a clip from the bin and drop it on the canvas it doesn’t snap to the borders… it settles in off center…
