I’ve created 2 DVD projects now where I’ve used some effects on my titling and although they show details when previewed, once rendered, much of the effects are attenuated.

one effect was the simulated look of moving clouds behind the title, the other a lightray effect. Both exhibited the same outcome.

Can someone shed some light on this mystery?

If you are creating the FX with the video preview window in “Preview” mode this would explain it. Quite often things look different when you switch to “Good” or “Best” for the final render. Always check your FX at Best to see what they really look like before rendering.

    Thanks John,

Do you mean that my fx can actually have more detail in the preview window if set to good or best?

The Draft and Preview settings are an estimation only and should only be used for cutting and timing your shots. Vegas gives up quality/accuracy in favor of speed. Once you start to color correct or add FX, you should definitely switch to Good or Best to see the true video output.

    Thanks again,

I’ll try this setting for my next edit and will re-post if my problem reappears.
