    Hey all,

I figured, why not have a go at this 😎
it’s an earth with clouds, and withlights that go on when it’s night-time

here’s a kinda complete earth model in After Effects.
It doesn’t render very fast, but I think it’s worth it:

    Project file:
    https://www.vandueren.be/forumstuff/earth/earth.zip

The textures are pretty low-res, but you can find better quality textures quite easily at Nasa.

For Whom it may concern, the recipe, bottom to top:

    • some stars
    • the night-texture with CC-Sphere,
      • Ambient Shading 100%, Diffuse shading 0%
    • the daytime-texture with CC Sphere,
      • Ambient Shading 100%, Diffuse shading 0%

      luma matte enabled

    • as luma matte; a white solid with CC sphere,
      • light cranked up to 500% so it has more contrast
      • Ambient 0%; Diffuse shading: 100%
    • the clouds are greyscale
      • Shift Channels effect, “take Alpha from ‘red'” to make them transparant,
      • Tint effect to give it a slight blueish hue.
      • CC Sphere,
        • Ambient Shading 10%, Diffuse shading 90%
      • a 2d dropshadow to give it some relief
      • Some curves to enhance the alpha, brightness, and make it a little more blueish
    • An adjustment layer to make the whole thing glow a bit. set to “Add”
      • Channel Combiner Max RGB -> Lightness
      • Brighntess Contrast: contrast +50
      • Hue/Saturation: Saturation-50
      • Fast Blur at 100 px

Then all the CC Spheres are linked together with parenting & their effects-parameters with expressions so only one sphere needs to be altered.
The layer is also rotated 23.5

    Hi Kathlyn,
I’d be honoured, but let me flesh it out some more, maybe add the moon 😉
    definately some more screenshits.
I’ll email the files over, probably after the weekend.

    “definately some more screenshits”
I hate it when that happens (a little cross-language humour)
