Expensive lesson in the fact that they need to either reshoot, or purchase an MXF reader…that allows their machine to view MXF files. You OFFLOADER allows Mac computers to view MXF files? You said it was WIN…Windows.

eer, it is mac and win. But the mac version is paid as it can write back to XDcam (and altering the xml and stuff to make it a valid XDcam disc)
The Canon support was added for the BBC.

But your comment on reshoot is a bit strange. For the price of a reshoot you can buy a good PC.
For the price of my Offloader Mac you can buy a decent second hand PC< convert the files and be done with it.
Or you can learn to use open source tools, even script them and be done with it for free.
Bottom line, you may be right about getting the correct workflow, but suggesting a reshoot is way beyond reason.

Hi guys,

I work with a Canon XF100 and FCP7 on my iMac with OSX Lion.

I’ve done exactly the same mistake (losing the INDEX.MIF) and I’m afraid I tend to believe Shane about reshoot….
basically I can read the MXF files with QuickTime or MPEGStreamCLip and therefore can convert them into AppleProRes no problems, but the issue is that for shots that are longer than 30 seconds:
Basically for any long shot the MXF video file stops at 30 seconds, and is NOT part of a series of clips that FCP will put together into one long clip. (This happens for very long shots of 1 hour or so)

I’ve done a test with a normal 2mn working clip (with INDEX.MIF) and the only way to see the whole length of 2mn is into the log and transfer windoww of Final Cut. If I lose the INDEX.MIF for this clip (part of the CLIPS001 directory) the only thing I can do is to use QuickTime or other MXF converters but it only shows a 30 sec clip……

Bouke, if you are 100% confident that I can fix this issue with your software I’ll buy it, but I have a lot of doubts that it’ll work.

Ryan, did it work for you in the end? Please tell me it’d be great to know that this problem can be fixed…

I’m happy to re-explain if it doesn’t make sense, I have a few hours of footage involved…impossible to re-shoot as it’s performance footage.

Hi Bruno,

I can’t remember many specific details as this was quite a while ago, however I can definitely remember that running the full version of the CalibratedQ software resolved the issue for me no problem.

so did you have to buy the version that is about 250$ ?
IF that’s the case, I’d like to be sure it will work 100%. Can you please confirm that this version allows to export any MXF in full length? I think you had the very same problem than me: you lost the INDEX.MIF file.
Is that correct?

I got in touch with the sales team of Calibrated Q and I bought the software for 250$, and it now works.

FOR INFO: the demo version of calibrated Q was only showing the first 30 seconds of the XMF files….with the full version I can now have access of the full length of my clips in QuickTime or FCP, and then convert them in AppleProRes….I’m not unhappy to have spent this money as this is very practical.
Although it’s really a shame to have to pay just to be able to read a bloody format…..

Hi. I arrive quite late on this chat. As usually when I have a problem, I come here on creative cow and find quite always a solution!!!
Today, I tried to log and transfer files from the Canon C300 and I couldn’t import them into FCP, though the files “index.mif” were there.
I realized that my folder’s name were in french so I turned them back to “CLIPS001”, “CLIPS002”, etc and it worked! Just by changing their names, FCP recognized all the MXF files!

If it can help anyone, … quite easy solution!!!
