I guess everyone is scrambling a bit because of the world wide tape shortage. We are no expection. I have just received a digital delivery spec from my broadcaster and I am trying to figure out the best way to proceed.

They are requesting a MXF Op1a file incapsulating a DVCProHD (1080i) codec @ 100mps and PCM wave for 5.1 audio.

We are mastering on an AVID Symphony DX running 5.xx software. The show is shot and editied @23.98 and currently mastered to HDSR 1080p

Any help on how to get from A to B would be greatly appreciated.

Look into the Episode family by Telestream.

    https://www.telestream.net/episode/overview.htm

Excellent flexibility and has the ability to create files that many playout servers need.

    Hi Graham,

Did you ever figure this one out? I currently am tasked with capturing an HD SR tape and exporting it as this exact type of file: MXF Op1a wrapper, DVCProHD (1080i) codec, 100Mbps, PCM Wave audio (10 channels Lt/Rt, DV Lt/Rt, 5.1).

I am looking into Telestream Episode and have emailed their team to see if they can confirm if this works. I am a bit discouraged because I don’t think Episode can handle audio tracks very well. The manual for Episode says that it combines audio tracks, saying specifically that a QuickTime input with 2 Stereo Tracks will result in an output file with 4 channels in a single track.

Greatly appreciate if anyone has any ideas. Not sure if there are any rules on this site re: consulting fees, but I’m pretty desperate and if anyone can help solve this problem I would owe you one.

    Hi,

You have probably found a solution by now. I ended up purchaseing MXF 4 Mac and installing it on FCP7. We married the DVCPRO HD file from the AVID with PCM broadcast wav files from Protools in FCP7 and then exported using the MXF 4 Mac plugin. A bit of a pain in the ass but it worked.

    Hi Graham,

I appreciate the response and I’m sorry for not logging on here to thank you sooner. To be honest, I never did end up finding a solution although we came up with a few ideas. Turns out we don’t need to perform this export any more, but if I ever do I’ll certainly give your workflow a last resort try. Does sound like a pain though 🙂

Also, v7 and 8 have an AMA export for OP1a directly from Media Composer to consider depending on what codec you want to use for the essence.
