mxf Files to Final Cut Pro
Posted by David S. on January 11, 2006 at 7:48 pmI downloaded a folder that was upload to a web site from the p2 card of a HVX200
It has a Contents folder-Audio-Clip-Video-Icon-Proxy-Voice subfolders.
One as mxf files in it.
How to get these video files if they are into FCP 5 to view the footage.
Thanks

January 11, 2006 at 8:30 pmMany of the sites also have DVCProHD in MOV format. Those should work.
Flip4Mac has an MXF importer for XDCAM to Final Cut Pro. I’d think it would be good if they were to support it for P2 also. Sony and Panasonic are using MXF in slightly different formats. Maybe Jan can go into detail.

January 11, 2006 at 8:58 pmGo to Import Panasonic P2, it is a menu item. That opens a windo. On the upper right there is a button that allows you to search to that folder. I would have saved it so that the file structure looks like Card 1(or something like that)/CONTENTS. Rest on the Card 1 name and then click the open file. The media should display itself. Down on the bottom, lower right you have a choice for import all. or you can click on a clip and import just that one. The windo closes and you are back in FCP. drag you video onto the time line. Done.
Hope that helps,
Jan

January 11, 2006 at 9:05 pmThanks Jan.
I elected import P2 card, and navigate to the card and chose open.
I got three icons that had thumbnails.
Elected to import all, and received a message that the files are either incomplete or corrupt.
This Dan Parsons’ stuff including green screen downloaded from a link at dvxuser.com, Jarred’s site.
Downloaded it twice. It’s 400 megabytes, and it unzips without an issue.
Just won’t import after showing thumbnails with those icons and that error message.

January 11, 2006 at 9:37 pmDo you ever get a break from all this?
In any case, your feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks

January 11, 2006 at 10:54 pmDavid,
works smooth for me with fcp 5.0.4. What a joy to work with. I also like that you can open the .xml file and look at the particulars (ok, so FCP needs to add that native support…but still. nice).they did move the files (hosting)…sounds like that’s not your issue but. FWIW, here’s a quick screenshot of what the directory looks like on my drive to compare against the file sizes you get once uncompressed if that helps.
