  • MXF files not recognized within AVID

A project I have been working on was started by other people, had originally taken R3D files and brought into Red Rushes and then into FCP. The P{roducers then rented a PC based AVID and transferred most files into PRORES files. They then imported those files into AVID.

For the files they did not create PRORES files, I have been taking R3D files from the RED cam, transcoding via metafuze into mxf, then moving into the mxf/2 folders.

For most files all worked fine, but for some reason, AVID is not recognizing or seeing the mxf files of ten or so files that I need to edit with.

I have created a new bin, created the ALE’s with metafuze and imported the ALE into the bin. Tried to relink the media to the files but that did not work. I have tried to look at the media within the media tool, but I cannot see the files.

However I do see the files when I look in the folder on the drive.

Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? Is there something I am missing?

Has anyone else had this problem? Any help is much appreciated.

Do they have the right Project association?

I believe so. I see the files within the media tool after I have selected the correct drive and project name.

When I have problems with my MXF files, I open the MXF media folder and delete the “msm” files (there’s two of them). This makes Avid look for all of it’s media again…and it rewrites the “msm” files in the folder. It works most of the time for me.

Yeah I tried that already and it did not fix this issue. Thanks for the response. If any one else has any ideas… I am all ears… or eyes…

If you see them in the Media Tool, simply drag them into a bin and edit away.

Two issues I see with the last of the files to edit with on this project…

Issue one, some of the files that I see within the Media Tool database the audio is flatlined within the audio track and not working (silent). I have picture, but not the audio track to go with it although the media shows like it is a viable track (not MEDIA OFFLINE) just flat lined with no waveform.

Issue two, there ar e some files I do not see within the media tool. These are files that I have transcoded into mxf files. I do see them within the mxf/2 folder on the hard drive but cannot see them within the media tool within AVID. I have created ALE’s and tried to link them, but that does not work either. I have tried deleteing the database files within the mxf/2 folder. Does not work…

    Anyone with any other suggestions?

I am having this same exact issue. As long as I have the MXF files in the appropriate location, I can drag the AAF into the bin and the video is there, but the audio is not.

When I use Media Tool, it recognized the audio file, there is just NOTHING there.

    I also am on 4.0.2
