is there a plug-in or downloadable application that will allow Final Cut ver 5.14 to recognize .MXF files? I can see P2 files but not .MXF files

FCP cannot see the MXF files natively. P2 files and MXF files…same thing. You need to IMPORT them. FILE>IMPORT>PANASONIC P2.
