I’m using after effects 6.5 academic edition, and when I do a composite of a muzzle flash, part of the spray of the muzzle flash is overlapping the black trim of the widescreen.

How can I prevent this from happening?

    Thanks!

There are several ways, What I would do is take a black solid and place it over the black trim on the top and bottom and then lock the layer. (make sure the layer is above everything else in the comp.
