When working in FCP, I enable the track audible controls tab in the lower left corner of the timeline. I then click a mute button to NO effect, same with the solo button NOTHING happens. How can it be that neither button has any effect on any of my 6 audio tracks. I can lower the volume manually, I can Command-S to disable the track and those commands work just fine. But when I click mute or solo, even though the buttons change color to indicate their toggled state they have no effect on the playback of my audio.
Can anyone shed light on this issue for me please?

I believe it is because the sequence was rendered with “Audio Mixdown”
Try placing a long dissolve at the end of an audio clip.
If you have to render this Do not render with Audio Mixdown enabled.
Your Mute/Solo buttons should work over the dissolve area but not on the area that was untouched.

Re-select the audio clip including the dissolve.
Render Audio Mixdown. (Option Command R)
Your Mute/Solo buttons will most likely not work.

    Hope that helps.

Victor, bang-on! My mistake was that I was pressing Option-Command-R (Mixdown render). When I meant to be pressing Control-Option-R (Audio render). The solution is to simply deselect the Track Audible buttons (FCP warns of the impending loss of render files) and then re-enable and render properly. Thank you very much for your help, I certainly appreciate it.

Your welcome. I constantly use the Mute / Solo buttons and get that problem every once in a while.
    All the best.

If I may… I have another question re: the same topic.
Is there any visual indicator to signify the audio has been Mix Down rendered?
Does anything change color, underline, capitalize? I noticed that I really like pressing Option-Command more than I do Control-Option I think it’s because I’m left handed? But for whatever reason I seem to be doing it a-lot without noticing.

There is no physical view/pointer/marker that I know of. Thats not to say that there is.

If you are accustomed to pressing Option Command R to render, but do not want to Mixdown.
You can always customize your keyboard layout to lets say…
    Option Command R = Render
Command R = Render Audio Mixdown

Tools > Keyboard Layout > Customize
Just type what you are looking for in the upper right. Audio Mixdown
click on the Command with your mouse on the screen
and drag the selection in the Right box to the R Key (or whichever you want)

    Type render
Click on Option & Command then drag the icon to R.

I would save the Keyboard Layout if others also use your Mac to edit. The Default is easily brought back to life by selecting Load Default Keyboard Layout.

    Hope that helps
