I just completed a music video in PPCS4 (Production Studio). 1440x1080i. Two questions.
One: When I export to HD mpeg whether in 1920 or 1440, when I play on PS3 as a file, the video has the black bar on top and bottom and the video appears to be slightly stretched on my HD TV. Export to SD Wide AVI and Encore conversion to DVD fills whole screen, looks great.

Two: Many music videos on TV, even in HD appear to be a 4:3 in the middle of the screen (black sides). Many Sony Artist Videos on You Tube are for sure. I like the ones that appear to be a large rectangle box centered proportionally within the HD view (Mariah Carey – Touch My Body). I need some suggestions. This video will likely be played on SD TV and of course will need to fit sd widescreen (it does now on DVD). But, I need an HD version and it would be nice to have some suggestions. I am wondering – suspecting that the previous styles I have mentioned are there for technical reasons as much as looks. Possibly I would adjust the video in a 1080i project to have black?? Then export black and video as 1080i?? I need advice and opinions. Possibly I have some confusion over 1.33 and 1.2 formats.

How will you play back your HD version?
Are you going to burn it to Blu-Ray disk or play if off a computer? If off a computer, do you mean over the internet or off a local hard drive?

You can check all the file sizes and aspect ratios by choosing to make a new sequence and then just looking at the Presets.

I don’t have a PS3, didn’t know you could load Mpeg files to it and play them back, but I’d guess the PS3 is not reading the aspect ratio correctly from the file or the settings on the PS3 need to be changed. If the mpeg file is loaded back into PremirePro, does it look alright? Check it’s properties?

I guess I envisioned a single PPro copy that I would complete in HD and export to whatever format needed. The PS3 generally does HD files very well. I think what may be happening is that I need to export a 1.2 ratio (PPro). I intend to post an HD version on You Tube and broadcast an SD widescreen for starters. I am still debating on using the window boxing effect for the HD and widescreen version. I use the PS3 to see what the HD version will look like as lcd monitors don’t help me much, even in HD.
