My project is a music video. I was wondering what the best way to render with the song (or add the song later) so as to not have any clicks and pops in the final cut. I have been rendering the song with the full project as an avi and I don’t think I have been using any compression. The song is an mp3 which I could change the wav….or should I change the video format to quicktime? Also which is the best video format for encore? When I create a dvd in encore I do notice a video quality loss. Can this be helped? Thanks, Rusty

Convert the MP3 into WAV or AIFF using Quicktime Player. (export) Then import that into AE. When you render, don’t use any audio compression in the Output Module settings.

Encore likes AVI if I recall — check the manual. The video that goes into it should have as little compression as possible: uncompressed AVI or Animation codec Quicktime if it takes QT. Then you’ll have to compress it to MPEG-2 (manually or in Encore) which will give you quality loss, since MPEG-2 is very lossy. But you have no choice: DVDs must use MPEG-2 compression.

I would not embed the audio at all. you can always add an audio track separately in Encore. Which format you choose is pretty much up to you if you use Encore 2.0 – it supports both AVI and QT. Just make sure to work as uncompressed as you possibly can and that you render with fields. You could also directly render out your clip as an MPEG-II video (m2v) and use it in Encore. this may save some time on authoring the DVD because it doesn’t need to be transcoded anymore.
