music licensing: is only a Master use License needed if it’s an indy band?
If the music I’m using in my film is by an indy artist, who belongs to no record label, nor is there a publisher for the composition THEN would I only need a Master Use license for the indy artist, and not require a sync and performance license for the “composition”?

It’s easier than that. In this case, you could have a paper all like “man, this cat can totally use my tunage, ya dig?”
with his signature and blessing, your golden.

shoot, you could prolly even use two songs if ya throw in a case of beer.

sure, but i don’t understand how this gives me rights to the
“Musical Work” (composition). I have one contract that gives me all rights pertaining to the MASTER Recording. After all there are 2 seperate copyrights to each recording, so how does the fact that one person owning all the rights clear me from needing permissions for the 2 required copyrights?I was under the impression that clearance is needed for both copyrights for any musical work.
