Music Editing in Sony Vegas 9.0 Trial
Hi, all. I have tinkered with various sound and video editing programs through the years, but I’m far from expert. I just bought a high definition camcorder, so now I’m in the process of deciding which editing program to invest in. To that end, I downloaded the trial version of Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9.0.
It’s pretty intuitive, and I’m doing the tutorials here and there. But music editing has me stumped. I can’t seem to consistently be able to select the frames that I want to delete. I’ve marked the starting point of the cut and the ending point. Then I click on the start marker, hold down the shift (I’ve also tried Control) key, then click on the end point. Nothing selects.
If I try clicking in the timeline, the whole track selects. Sometimes I’m able to get the “Loop Region” to display. Not sure what to do with it when it does…
What am I doing wrong here? This should be so simple…

It sounds like you just need to split the clips with the ‘S‘ key and delete the parts you don’t want.

And also if you are gonna invest in Vegas editing software,
Vegas professional version is what i would recommend you do
that with….because down the road you are gonna end up wanting
several features that’s only available in the Pro version.Steve Rhoden

Steve, while it’s true that the pro version has a lot of possibilities that the consumer version does not, the consumer version is, I think, a great way to begin. It offers more help, is easier to understand, etc. I started with pro version 3 (back when it was not a Sony product) and have stuck with it. But I helped a neighbor start up with the consumer version and was astonished at how powerful and also how much easier it is to learn.Later the user can upgrade.

Yeah… It’s a big jump from $114 to $549 for the pro version. I want to really learn the consumer version thoroughly. I’m sure in the process I will discover its limitations. Eventually, maybe I will spring for the pro package, but it’s a bit too spendy for me right now.

It is hard to tell what you are trying to so. You mentioned editing music but then to talk about cutting frames. Music doesn’t have frames video does. So I’m not sure what you are trying to accomplish.
The ‘S’ key will allow you to split an event into two events. Click on the event on the timeline at the point you want to cut and press ‘S’. Then move to the end point you want to cut and press ‘S’. Then selected the event in between that you just split apart and press the Del key to delete it. If this is not what you want to do, please explain in greater detail what you are trying to accomplish.
