Say I have some footage of a dancing figure and I want to — I don’t know exactly how to say this right, so I’m hoping u’ll guess what I mean .. it’s a pretty common effect in videos — make some copies of it, like subsequent shadows, a row that “moves around” ( that was awkardly put ) .. Anyway .. if u got what i meant, is there a way I can do that in A.E. ?!?
    Thank you !

Try playing with the Echo effect and see if that gives you what you want. To get a trail that moves around in a different direction than the original, you might need to put the echo on a duped layer, then keyframe position, maybe apply a distortion. Have fun with it.

I am trying to create an sparkler (the firework) effect. I have an animated shot of a sparkler and I want the hot spot to trail like sparkler does (you know what I mean, the old writing of your name).

I try to use the echo effect, but it does not seem to work. Are there any basic requirements for using that effect? What could I be doing wrong? Do I not understand the Echo effect?
