Hi all, I’m having an issue with Multiprocessing for my Win-XP-64bit station. I have enabled it tweaked the settings to allow each core 1gb or ram. As soon as I hit render, I see in the info box that “Multiprocessor is off”. Here are the specs of my system:

    Windows XP Pro x64
    Version 2003
    Service Pack 2

    HP xw9400 Workstation
    Dual_Core AMD Opteron
    Processor 2216
    2.40 GHz
    8gb Ram

    NVIDIA Quadro FX 4600/PCI/SSE2
    Version 2.1.0

    I’m running AE v8.0.2.27

Project is rendering to a CalDigit Raid 5 Array with plenty of space.

My settings for Memory and Cache are as follows:

    Max Memory Usage= 100%= 4.0gb
    Max RAM Cache= 28%=1.1gb
    Enable Disk Cache= Off

    In the Multiprocessing option:

I have Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously enabled
Says that “3 additional processors will be used”
Also says that “independent of this setting, all CPUs (4) maybe be used to accelerate rendering within a single frame”.

Nothing else is running while I try to render and there are no firewalls/virus protection running.

This computer is only used for After Effects, so we keep it off the internet. It has not been connected to the internet from the time HP configured it and sent it to me. The update for AE was downloaded from the internet on a separate computer and transferred to this computer via USB key.

Any help, hints or tips would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank-you in advance.

if opengl acceleration is enabled in the preferences>previews then ae will use opengl to accelerate your ram previews over multiprocessing (they are not compatible renderers). likewise if you have use opengl for renders enabled in the render settings (by default opengl is not used for final renders).

so, disable opengl for previews (and, if needed, in the render settings) then see if you can get multiprocessing to work…
