Multiple videos in a grid effect/technique
Hello all,
Quick one – just beginning on a project with a lot of footage to condense down into a short video, really want to use this sort of technique:
I haven’t a clue where to begin with creating it though, can anyone recommend any tutorials or plugins for me to get started on? Or ideas on how the technique is implemented? I’m assuming there’s some degree of autmoation as least – the thought of doing it purely with keyframes is giving me a headache.

But it sure won’t do the animation work. I would start out looking at the video I’ve got, with an eye toward various grid compositions, and how they might be masked/cropped. A storyboard would certainly be your friend here, even if it’s penciled roughs, so you know where you’re going. I would even think about capturing stills of all the video clips I have on hand, then bringing them in to Photoshop, and playing around with layouts. It’s not rocket science, but it’s a lot of planning.

Yup, pretty much as I feared! Sometimes worth checking there isn’t a magic plugin (although if there is – feel free) before getting stuck into a time vampire. Storyboarding & photoshop layouts are a good call.

Yeah, Chris – I think a bit part of cutting the time on a project like this is the previz, and backing into it. Creating the final layout of your grids, and then animating them from back to front, so to speak. That could save some time.
