    Hey again

I am working on a show where everythoing was logged and captured at DV from a sony HDV machine (M10?). I cut a promo and now i want to recapture the selects at DVCPROHD via my Kona LH. Since this is relatively new for me i created an HDV test tape with 2 pops and window burn TC to check any offset i might have. I captured a clip HDV Firewire, and placed it on a timeline so the TCwindow matched the timeloine tc. I then recaptured the same clip by controlling through the firewire (this time NTSC NDF) but bringin the visdeo and audio through the kona Component Analog. I got a three frame offset, after changing my device control to compnesate i then did a couple of recaptures more to check it, and found a 1 frame variation!!

OK. so now i set up the to capture the same in and outpoints 5 times, thereby capturing the same clip 5 times adn guess what? 2 out of 5 times the capture was off by one frame!

man waht kinda marketing madness is this? can anyone comment? am i doing something wrong? or is this the way it is?

my next step is to connect the deck up to my kona’s 422 contoller using a TAO L-port adapter that talks LAN C to the deck, but i am guessing my results wont vary

    nice technology….HA

Wow! For someone who just switched to FCP, you have NO FEAR! Now you’re capturing DV via an HDV deck at DVPROHD via a Kona LH? I thought I was crazy!

    Kudos.

actually, ben, its more like no time.

did a coupla jobs at hdv and was underwhelmed at the performance.

then i took a job that was captured at hdv and converted via media manager to dvcprohd and found the performance to be better

sooo i was trying to establish a workflow to capture direct to dvcprohd OR dvcpro50 at 16×9 OR 8 bit uncompressed at 16×9 via my kona lh card and analog component out of the hdv vtr. I already had a my show at DV (it was digitized on FCP4 running on an imac) so i needed to find the offset through the card. That is wehen i found the one frame error.

What i have come to realize is this: even though hdv or dvcprohd looks good on my big plasma monitor, nobody is looking at hd deleverables, so wahts the point? as a matter of fact being at HD gets in the way of making SD DVDs and so on.

So i think my newest workflow is to grab everything only once at either DVCprohd OR dv50 or 8 bit, THEN make dv or offline rt copies for editing THEN erlink to the high rez files. at least i wont have to recapture abd deal with a one frame drift.

BTW has anyone else had these issues?
