A while ago someone tried to tell me I was full of it when I tried to tell them of this technique. Recently I had the pleasure of producing an event video. In the process of this some of the audio that the camera recoreded was a little weak.

It had been some time since I used this technique. I just copied and pasted the audio for several layers. I then adjusted the volume sliders until I liked what I heard.

Remember that Vegas has unlimited layers, and treats each layer individually. Using this method, I was able to bring up either whole sections of audio or even just small parts that were weak.

Just a tip for when the audio isn’t quite what you want it to be. When it was all rendered to an avi, and then a DVD, it played great and people enjoyed it. Without this method, I could only turn up the one track and not get the fullness I needed.

Yes, audio is cumulative, so if you keep adding copies it’s going to sound louder.

Other approaches would be to use Normalizing or the Volume FX.

You can also boost the volume with both the track volume control and a track volume enveolpe. When used together, that would make quite a diference.

Would it not be easier to use a sound editor such as Sound Forge to increase and improve the sound quality?

Yes, perhaps, but if you don’t have Sound Forge, it is a working solution. That is one of the great benifits of Vegas, it outpowers much of the competition.
    Thank you guys for adding,
