    Hi there from New Zealand,
I have dozens of images in a composition (small file sizes) that are to look as if they are moving toward and away from the viewer as well as going in and out of focus.

My aim is to achieve this basic camera look and have bearable render times.
Both of the following techniques I’ve tried seem too demanding for what is going on.

Technique #1 Using a camera with DOF I have the images moving to and fro along the Z axis.

Technique #2 Without a camera the images scale up and down and each have a keyframed Camera Lens Blur effect, simulating DOF.

The former is faster to alter as the blur is only on the camera but both techniques take a long time to render.

Is there a simpler way of doing this, should I use a more efficient blur?

    Thanks so much,
    Vince

Getting a realistic-looking camera lens blur is going to hog your system resources. Try the fast blur or the Gaussian blur. If it looks acceptable, they will render far faster then the Camera Lens Blur or DOF. Granted, they aren’t quite as pretty, but if you value speed over a high quality blur (nothing necessarily wrong with that), then it should look fine.

Thanks Daniel the Fast Blur works a treat.

Renders aren’t too long and the fast blur does the job.
Depending on the client we can sometimes get away with these things.

    Cheers,
    Vince
