In regards to the latest version of Resolve and the new Red Dragon 6K files. I have my Mac Pro 2013 system setup with a Cyclone expansion chassis with two 680’s. Since my Red Rocket won’t work with Dragon footage, I thought about adding one or two more 680’s in place of the Rocket. Since I am stuck with my 12 cores, will adding more 680’s give me faster transcoding speeds of Red and Alexa footage or not. I am currently getting 17 fps while transcoding 5K full res debayer to Pro Res 422 HQ, that is with the Rocket disabled to accommodate Dragon footage and the Resolve setting to use GPU’s to process Red footage. Thanks for any info or suggestions on how to speed up transcoding without going to a faster processor (new computer).

There is no decoding on Alexa footage.
At least none that is done by the GPU .
You are faced with neatly compressed 8mb per frame image sequences that can be played back with just 250mb/s Raids or one SSD
The problem is that you need a proper GPU for the 3K work, and as soon as you are starting to use OFX or TNR your cache files will become 24 mb/f which then leads to 850 mb/s.
Only my internal flash memory (nMP6.1) can play that back at 30fps and not blink.

Caldigit has some arrays that do 850 MB and some bigger ones coming out in the future
    i assume.

I am on a 12 TB internal Raid. I am just trying to figure out ways if maximizing transcoding speeds on my current system. I have 3 extra slots in my expansion chassis and 4 if I remove the Red Rocket. Are there ways to speed up transcoding speeds of Alexa? Will adding GPU’s speed up transcoding speeds of Red 5k and 6k footage?

Alexa you want to transcode to what ?

WIth latest update to resolve red stuff seemed to get much faster.

I have no way to compare with RR but i assume it would go much faster with
    many gpu’s.

Also machine cpu and io speed plays role here.

You have to think all of them.
