Multiple formats and frame rates
Hi all,
some advice needed on dealing with multiple formats and frame rates in a Premiere Pro project.
I’ve jumped onboard someone else’s project, a documentary shot over the past year. When I’m shooting my own projects, even if I use multiple cameras, i always ensure that the frame rates are the same etc. However, while I was told all was uniform I’ve just received the footage and it’s all over the place.
The footage is as follows:
* Sony EX1: 1920 x 1080i 25fps
* Sony Z1P: 1440 x 1080i 25fps
* Canon 5D: 1920 x 1080p 30fps
* Canon XA20: 1920 x 1080i 25fps
* iPhone: 1920 x 1080p 30fps
The doco is for the ABC and SBS so the output has to be broadcast specs. I usually cut on FCP but am considering using Premiere as I’ve found it’s not as temperamental with such problems.
Any suggestions on how best to set the project up? If it was just a few clips i’d convert them to 25fps but we’re talking folders and folders of footage shot over the past year. However, the issue with not converting them to match a uniform format is obvious dramas on the timeline. Also, editing on a timeline with both interlaced and progressive footage: I’ve always had one or the other. Thoughts?
Love to hear your thoughts and suggestions, thanks guys.
Matt
